  • The Burbank Cinema, San Jose, CA.  Opened in 1949.  Apparently, it was shut down in March of 2000 as a public nuisance by the Santa Clara County D.A.

  • The Avenal Theater, Avenal, CA.  Opened in 1935 and burned down in November of 2003.  It was rebuilt just as it was in 1935 and re-opened in 2010.

  • The Marin Theatre, Sausalito, CA.  It oped sometime in the 1920's and was apparently quite well ornimented.  At some point in the '80's, the neon sign was taken down.

  • The Esquire IMAX Theatre, Sacramento, CA.  The Esquire Theatre opened in 1940.  In the 2000's, the theatre was gutted, and only the exterior preserved to build the IMAX theatre.

  • The Liberty Theatre opened in 1917 in Fresno, CA. It became the Hardy's Theatre in the 1930's, and at some point became the Mexico Theatre.  It's now a church, but the original Liberty Theatre sign can still be seen towards the top.

  • The Uptown Theatre, Port Townsend, WA.  The building itself was build in the 1800's, but was converted to a theatre in the 1940's.

  • One of the most beautiful examples of Art Deco still remaining, the Paramount Theatre stands as a gem among stones of Oakland, CA.  Opened in 1931, the lower part of the marquee has undergone a few facelifts over the years.  Of of my favorite theaters to stand before and look at.  Just make sure you don't go to downtown Oakland at night by yourself.
